Welcome

The Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Fellowship at Florida Hospital was approved by the Fellowship Council in August of 2005 and again in 2007 following a site visit review. The program is a clinically broad fellowship covering general surgical laparoscopic procedures and techniques in adults and children as well as colorectal and endoscopic procedures and techniques. This one-year program accepts two fellows each year. The Program Director of this multifaceted program is Mark S. Chaet, MD, a well-respected pediatric surgeon here in Central Florida.

This fellowship program in the Medical Education Department of Florida Hospital involves research, development, and/or the use of cutting edge technology which aligns Medical Education with Florida Hospital’s mission to be a global pacesetter in healthcare.

Application Process and Prerequisites
Completion of an ACGME or AOA-accredited General Surgery Residency Program is required for eligibility. Applications are received through the Fellowship Council and our program participates in the Match. Applications must be submitted through The Fellowship Council at www.fellowshipcouncil.org. Interested applicants may access the Fellowship Council website via the attached link. The application deadline is September 1st. Only complete applications will be reviewed. A personal interview is required for applicants who meet all other eligibility requirements.

Electronic Medical Record System
Documentation of patient care is done using an "Electronic Medical Record" or EMR called I-Extend, a Cerner© product tailored to the needs of Florida Hospital. This program streamlines the patient care process, improving efficiency and patient safety. It replaces the traditional paper chart and insures availability of lab results, radiological studies, etc. ensuring that care is well coordinated.
